In Phelps County, MO., Cord Jenkins and his wife Dana raise Colored Broilers, a heritage breed chicken on their grass-based farm. Cord and Dana are both teachers, with a strong commitment to sustainability. They raise their chickens completely naturally, using predator netting over open pasture. The chickens range free under the netting, supplementing their natural grain diet with juicy grasshoppers and other bugs for added protein. The fresh natural, no hormone, no antibiotic—free range chickens are here. The whole chickens are frozen and are $4.59 per pound. Available in our meat department. Ask for Colleen or James.

Ranchers’ All-Natural Beef is produced by MO Best Cooperative. The beef is raised on family farms and trucked by the ranchers directly to our store, where it is cut into delicious roasts, steaks, and ground round and chuck. Sappington Farmers Market is directly involved in some of our farmers’ growing and production. Check out the Rancher’s All-Natural Beef packages available in our frozen foods department.

Bootheel Aquaculture Group was founded as a direct result of a feasibility study conducted in conjunction with Sappington Farmers Market. We have helped farmers in southeast MO become more self-sufficient by helping them to purchase processing equipment and obtain technical assistance to enable them to legally and safely process their fish and shellfish. The result is safe and delicious local trout and MO shrimp in our cases. Look for fresh bluegill in the fall.
